New paper by Dr. Chahine in Front Cardiovasc Med!

We are excited to share news of our article’s publication in Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, entitled “Epicardial adipose tissue is associated with left atrial volume and fibrosis in patients with atrial fibrillation”. Congratulations to lead author, Dr. Yaacoub Chahine.

In this paper, we used Late Gadolinium Enhancement MRI and the novel Dixon sequence to image fibrosis and epicardial adipose tissue in patients with atrial fibrillation. We showed that left atrial epicardial adipose tissue is associated with left atrial fibrosis and volume in patients with atrial fibrillation. However, spatial analysis of epicardial fat and fibrotic remodeling showed no clear overlap between the two. This work sheds more light on the relationship between these two substrates of atrial fibrillation and sets the stage for future studies in the field.
