Chiao-Yi Wang, BS, MS, PhD
Cardiology Fellows & Postdoctoral Fellows
Chiao-Yi is originally from Taiwan. She earned her B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and her M.S. degree from the Graduate Institute of Biomedical Electronics and Bioinformatics at National Taiwan University. During her master’s studies, she worked with Prof. Kung-Bin Sung in the Biomedical Optical Spectroscopy and Imaging Laboratory, where she developed an interest in applying engineering and computational approaches to biomedical problems.
Continuing her passion for biomedical research, Chiao-Yi recently earned her Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Maryland, College Park, under the supervision of Prof. Yang Tao in the Bio-imaging and Machine Vision Laboratory. During her Ph.D. studies, she worked on a variety of projects involving machine learning, computer vision, and multimodal sensing. Her research focused on developing machine learning frameworks that integrate imaging, video, wearable sensors, and multivariate time-series data to better understand complex real-world, healthcare, and biological systems. Through these projects, she developed a particular interest in multimodal AI and in translating machine learning and computer vision techniques to biomedical and healthcare applications.
In the CardSS Lab, Chiao-Yi is leading a project focused on leveraging AI and computer vision techniques to improve the detection of early cardiac changes and prediction of cardiomyopathy risk from echocardiograms among childhood cancer survivors.
In her free time, Chiao-Yi enjoys traveling, watching movies and series, watching sports, and playing the piano.
